Latest news: June 2010
In spite of the unpredictable June weather, we held the Summer Garden Party at Grove House on Sunday 13th. Thanks to a lot of help from the village ladies surpassing themselves producing a delicious buffet lunch including some spectacular puddings and sweet courses, we fed an estimated 83. With Musica Viva playing some classic accompaniment the afternoon was a magical success. The varied stalls included some fantastic cakes and bakes, books, tombola and some very testing guessing games, followed by a treasure hunt around the garden, before the inevitable rain shower brought an early close to play. The Treasurer is estimating that we made around £1000, but there are still some outstanding bills to finalise. Thanks must also go to the "Heavy Lift Team" who did so much in putting up tents, moving all the furniture and the neccessary catering equipment lent by The Feathers.
I am now able to report that the major works detailed in the last Quinquennial Survey have been completed. The decorators have just finished the interior paint work to the nave and chancel, and have done an excellent job. We now have just the porch and vestry and some minor woodwork staining to complete. Hopefully the exterior renovations and the new gas heating system will keep the winter damp at bay. If we can keep the squirrels out of the roof space and prevent them eating the electrics, we are on a winner!
