Introduction
After listening to a discussion between a group of Minskip residents about the origins of the name Minskip it occurred to us that there is an interest in the 'History of Minskip' within the residents of Minskip, but where do you start?
Perhaps history isn't just about great historical events that make the news but also about how a community develops. Occupations of its residents past and present, the names of its houses, lanes and areas of land around the village that are maybe not now in regular use are all of interest.
Also, importantly, peoples' memories are invaluable and help us to appreciate how things have changed. This, of course, is ongoing. What happens today will be history for others 5, 10, 50 years from now.
History can be about facts taken from records or about a persons reflections and memories. Information could be accessed through the library, the Internet, the use of the parish records, maps, researching the deeds to your house, and encouraging older residents to share their memories.
